That’s it… call it a season.

That’s not to say I won’t go out for a day run here and there when I feel like tolerating the heat. But, for the most part, I’m calling it a season.

Not to mention, I pushed the limits of my car sometime in the last two trips out. I broke it in two spots, and think it needs to be stripped and sold to a strictly sand enthusiast. So, this summer PSD Motorsports is going to build me a two seater, with a frame and suspension that can handle the hard pack. More to come on that subject.

Well, I look forward to next season and running around looking for something interesting to film. Until then…

Last Trip?

At the moment we are calling this the last trip of the season…

So we’re headed back to Ocotillo this weekend for one last time before we put the cars away. We also hope to get some last minute footage to add to the HD archives now, and edited into a watchable release in the future.

This season proved a bit rough on the car, including blowing up an engine, fried electrical, and other smaller issues, we chalked the season up to a ‘maintenance year’. We were still able to get some great in-car footage, and we are really looking forward to next season and putting a lot more tape through the new HD cameras.

Ocotillo this weekend!

More problems prevent shoot…

The SANDRASH crew was plagued by more issues with the car over this last weekend when their main charging feed rubbed through the insulation and shorted out. A quick replacement and all seemed fine, but about 15 miles into the first ride, the engine went dead. A couple of quick troubleshoot steps and it was determined that the alternator was in fact done for, more than likely caused by the shorting of the charging wire. So, we ended up riding the cooler quite a bit, but still had a time out there.

We were able to take this footage for your enjoyment during our ‘downtime’…

The PSD guys faired about the same, when on the ride back to camp proved fatal to the passenger side rear trailer arm that experienced some blunt trauma when taking a turn a bit outside of the optimal drive line (see video below).

We hope to be back out there in a week or two, and setup for more filming. So, stay tuned and we look forward to seeing everyone out there.

Sandrash filming out at Plaster City

We will be out at Plaster City / Ocotillo filming for a new offroad film this weekend. We hope to see you out there, and of course please come say hello if you’re in the area. This new film is being shot in beautiful High Definition (HD), and the desert has never looked so good!

If you have an interest in being the film, please don’t hesitate to come talk to us about it. We plan on doing most of the shooting on Saturday the 10th. Please be prepared to sign / give a waiver, and as usual we encourage safe and controlled driving.

Happy New Year!

Wow… It’s been a long time! Happy New Year! We haven’t posted in over a year (minus the updates to the videos section mostly).

Sandrash has been off working on projects not related to offroad, however we have big plans. This season our focus is mostly in the hardpack (Plaster City and Superstition), with some trips planned to the sand later in the season. Our first trip out to Superstition was fantastic, although a busted turbo line wreaked havoc on the only chase car we have… it turns out the Subaru’s can handle a lot of beating on, but 30lbs of sustained boost, not so much. Now, we have a new motor (Subaru EJ20T) and are rock ready though, so keep an eye out and come say Hi, we always love talking offroad with people.

As most of you know, we spend a lot of time with the guys over at PSD Motorsports, well rumor has it they’re looking to get even deeper into the racing scene, who knows they might even build a car. So, stay tuned on that front. We spent some time with Ed Zimmerman, owner of PSD, he and his brother took us out in the PSD PreRunner. What an incredible machine, when you are averaging over 93Mph over the dirt and through the washes, you can put your money on getting the addrenaline flowing (maybe even a little nauseous).

Next trip… Plaster City the weekend of January 9thwe’ll be looking for you!

First trip… Glamis!

Desert season is here! Sandrash and company made their first trip out this last weekend to Glamis. What an absolute great time we had. Beautiful weather, great people, and sand…

We will be out there this season to finish up filming for the DVD this season, and hope to have it out this coming summer, so look for us out there and get nuts. We will try and post our upcoming trips and locations so you can come out and get in front of the camera.

Look forward to seeing everyone out there this season! As always, ride responsibly and stay safe.

Oh hell yes… The desert is back!

It’s about time, six months is really not that long when you sit and think about (but who does, really), but when you start getting the urge to drive you just can’t slow it down.

Well, the 2007-2008 season is upon us, and we’re gonna be there, cameras rolling. The video is coming along nicely, and this season is the last to collect the footage we need. So, we look forward to seeing everyone out at Gordon’s Well and Glamis this season, and gettin great footage.

Wow! What a weekend…

Sandrash Productions was invited to participate and film the introductory race of Team Mattox and their driver’s Ryan and Ross. While the team did not finish in the allotted seven hours (they came in approximately 15 minutes after the deadline), they still made it across the finish line without major incident, AND no tire change. Absolutely amazing. Great job guys, we look forward to being there for future races!

On a more somber note…

The second half of the race (TT, Class 1, Class 8, PT, and Class 7) started at 1:00p in the afternoon when tragedy struck a Class 1 car just before 2pm. The car, driven by Eddie Gonzalez, hit the second of three consecutive jumps and hit the ground nose first with tremendous force, and flipped end over end coming to rest on the roof of the vehicle. SCORE personnel were on the scene immediately to assist the car and the two inside, diverting traffic (cars leave the starting line every 30 seconds), and providing medical attention. Unfortunately, Eric Morales, 33, of Ensenada, Mexico, was fatally injured resulting from the crash.

Our hearts and sincere condolences go out to family, friends, and team of Mr. Morales…

Race on… safety first.

This brings up the point that racing is a truly dangerous sport, and Sandrash Productions would like to remind and encourage you to please take every precaution possible when engaging in activities such as this. Please protect yourself and those around you, wear the appropriate safety gear.
